Everyone remembers Hypercolor T-shirts, right? Well if we could transfer that idea to roofs, just imagine the money and resources we could save! For example, if the outside temperature is below 60 degrees, the roof will be black. It will heat the house with passive solar heating and keep the snow melted off. Between 60 and 65 degrees, the color will transition to grey. Then over 65 degrees, the roof will turn white, deflecting most of the suns rays and keeping the house cool and keeping the electricity bill from the A/C down.
How will this be implemented? I have no clue. But somewhere out there, someone knows how temperature and color change are connected, and they can pitch this idea to roof makers, and someday I will own a color changing roof. Do it!
